Andrew’s employment and discrimination practice encompasses TUPE, discrimination within partnerships, equal pay, restrictive covenants, unfair dismissal, redundancy, working time, minimum wage, breach of contract, parental and carer’s rights, remuneration and bonuses.
Andrew appears in employment, discrimination, judicial review and other civil matters in the ET, EAT, County Court, High Court and Court of Appeal as well as in internal and professional disciplinary and regulatory disputes.
Andrew sits as a fee paid Employment Judge.
Expert witness in Islamic and Middle Eastern Law
Andrew Allen has advised as an expert witness in the courts of England and Wales in a number of cases involving the laws of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Oman, Morocco, Tunisia, Iran, and Iraq. The subject matters ranged from laws regulating banking in Islam to questions relating to adoption, abortion, marriage, divorce, and inheritance.
Andrew was Deputy Director of the Centre of Islamic and Middle Eastern Law at the University of London 1996-1999. He worked as a Pegasus Scholar at the Law Firm of Chibli Mallat in Beirut Lebanon in 2000-2001. In September 2008, he addressed the 2008 US 10th Circuit Bench and Bar conference on ‘Islamic Law in the UK'. In 2009, Andrew was based in Baghdad, Iraq working in the Global Justice Project Iraq as Deputy Chief of Party.
