Tim Nesbitt has a practice specialising in regulatory and professional disciplinary law, public law, and commercial law.

Within his regulatory and professional disciplinary practice Tim particularly specialises in the defence of doctors in hearings before the General Medical Council, as well as before PCT disciplinary panels. This part of his practice also regularly encompasses work for nurses before the Nursing and Midifwery Council, dentists before the GDC, and solicitors before the SDT; and on appeals from those bodies.

The remaining parts of Tim's regulatory practice focus particularly on the regulation of the transport industry, health and safety, environmental law and financial services.  He is particularly well known for his work in relation to the regulation of the transport industry, where he has for a long time been recognised as one of the two or three leading practitioners at the Bar, appearing in most of the leading cases in this field in the last decade. His work in this context ranges from Public Inquiries in the operator licensing system, through appeals from Public Inquiries, through to defending companies and directors on serious charges in the criminal Courts (particularly corporate and gross negligence manslaughter). The health and safety and environmental work he undertakes often arises out of the transport industry, but he acts for all varieties of clients in these fields, and has particular experience in relation to the agricultural and waste transfer/ disposal sectors.

Tim has for many years undertaken a wide variety of public law and human rights work. He has a particular interest in and experience of the law relating to Coroner's inquests, regulary appearing in major Inquests and conducting appeals / S.13 reviews of coronial decisions. He has appeared in several of the major cases in this field in recent years. He frequently acts for local authorities and family members in proceedings in the Court of Protection, often in cases involving complex welfare and deprivation of liberty issues. Other work undertaken includes general judicial review work arising from the full range of public bodies, but especially regulatory bodies; education law and commuity care law. As well as undertaking High Court judicial review work he frequently appears in the First Tier and Upper Tribunals, including  the Administrative Chamber and the Tax and Chancery Chamber (in relation especially to appeals concerning decisions of HMRC and on VAT).

Tim also undertakes a wide variety of commercial litigation ranging for contractual disputes over the supply of goods and services, through issues concerning trusts and fiduciary duties, through to complex litigation engaging issues of EU law. He appears across a variety of forums ranging from the County Court and High Court through commercial arbitrations, through to pleading cases before the ECJ. Tim also brings to bear twenty years of experience of employment law to this part of practice, and is particularly well placed to act in relation to disputes with an employment dimension.
