Practice summary

Simon joined chambers as a tenant in October 2011 after successfully completing pupillage under Eliot Woolf, Naomi Cunningham, Robert-Jan Temmink (now of Quadrant Chambers) and James Leonard. During pupillage he experienced a wide range of work including commercial, international arbitration, personal injury, crime, inquests, clinical and professional negligence, pensions, employment, human rights and misfeasance in a public office.

Simon is currently acting as Support Counsel to the Al-Sweady Inquiry: a public inquiry into allegations of ill-treatment and unlawful killing by British soldiers in Iraq.

Recently, he has advised a major bank in cases arising out of debt collection methods. Other recent matters include advising and drafting in (group) travel litigation involving illnesses suffered abroad, and assisting another member of chambers in pensions cases.

He has appeared in the Employment Tribunal, County Court and Magistrates' Court, in cases ranging from whistle-blowing to contractual disputes to RSPCA animal cruelty prosecution.
As a consequence, Simon has a varied practice and accepts instructions in all areas of chambers work.

Prior to starting pupillage he was a Free Representation Unit representative, and was also involved in other pro bono projects, including  Streetlaw and Liberty Letters.

Simon's degree is in Jurisprudence from Christ Church, Oxford where he was a scholar. Whilst a Lord Denning scholar at Lincoln's Inn, Simon was the winner of the Sir Louis Gluckstein prize for advocacy; he was also awarded the Eastham Pupillage Scholarship by Lincoln's Inn.
