Benjamin Bradley accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers' practice, with an emphasis on Clinical Negligence, Personal Injury, Crime and Employment Law. He comes to the Bar with a strong background in advocacy and public speaking, having successfully represented Oxford University in its annual moot against Cambridge; and having been awarded the Advocacy Prize by Nottingham Law School for his performance on the Bar Vocational Course.
Ben appeared both in the Court of Appeal and the House of Lords in the landmark case of R (on the application of Purdy) v Director of Public Prosecutions [2009] EWCA Civ 92; [2009] UKHL 45, relating to the law on assisted suicide. He has since provided seminars to medical defence agencies on the effect of this decision, and its impact on medical practice. He is currently instructed as junior counsel in two multi-million pound claims against the NHS. He also regularly provides advice on quantum in respect of clinical negligence matters.
Despite his level of call, Ben already commands a predominantly multi-track personal injury practice. His practice is focused primarily in the areas of industrial disease, employers' liability, and travel law. He has experience of drafting schedules of loss in high-value claims, having spent periods of secondment in the clinical negligence and personal injury departments of 2 leading law firms. He is the co-author (with Charles Foster) of the APIL Guide to Tripping and Slipping Cases.
Ben continues to prosecute on behalf of the RSPCA both at first-instance and appellate level. He represents medical practitioners during the early stages of criminal proceedings. He also defends in transport matters. Through his medical and criminal work, Ben has significant experience of successfully cross-examining expert witnesses at inquests and at trial.
In the field of employment law, Ben has been instructed on numerous multi-day final hearings, pre-hearing reviews and case management discussions. He has experience of matters relating to Disability Discrimination, Sex Discrimination, Equal Pay, TUPE, wrongful and unfair dismissal, acting for both Claimants and Respondents alike. He is standing counsel to the British Association of Journalists.
He is Joint President of the Inner Temple Junior Bar Association.
