Clare commenced tenancy with Outer Temple in October 2008. She practices in employment law; commercial law; financial services and pensions. She also has a keen interest in public law, having recently been instructed by the Treasury Solicitor's Department on two high profile claims against the Government.

Commercial Law and Financial Services
Clare started her professional career as a City solicitor at Simmons & Simmons, qualifying into their Finance and Insurance Litigation department. During her time in private practice, she acted for banks, insurance companies and other corporates on complex and often multi-jurisdictional disputes. Clare also has extensive transactional experience in the financial services field, having worked as an in-house lawyer at UBS Investment Bank, specialising in hedge funds, prime brokerage and structured products.
As a junior barrister, Clare's practice embraces a range of commercial and financial services work, including; partnership disputes, professional negligence claims, trusts disputes, contractual disputes, PPI mis-selling claims and insolvency.

Clare has experience of drafting commercial pleadings, opinions and skeleton arguments and has appeared as an advocate in commercial hearings at county court and High Court level (including insolvency and bankruptcy hearings). She has recently been instructed as junior, led by Richard Lissack QC, in a case concerning jurisdiction in the Privy Council (Texan Management Limited and others v Pacific Electric Wire & Cable Company Limited [2009] UKPC Case Ref 46).

Clare also has expertise in the field of legal professional privilege. As a solicitor, she was involved a number of disclosure exercises in high-value commercial cases (including the Box Clever Litigation). She has recently been instructed by the Treasury Solicitor's Department on a large-scale disclosure exercise and by the Office of Fair Trading as independent counsel in a legal professional privilege review in a competition case.

Clare has rights of audience in the Dubai International Financial Court (DIFC) and is a member of COMBAR and the Financial Services Lawyers Association.

Employment and pensions
Clare has a fast-developing practice in employment law. She provides advice and advocacy for both Claimants and Respondents in a number of areas, including; unfair dismissal, constructive dismissal, discrimination, TUPE, pension rights, equal pay and redundancy. Clare is regularly instructed in multi-day hearings and interim matters.

Clare has experience of drafting employment pleadings, opinions and skeleton arguments. She is a member of ELA and ELBA and is standing counsel to the British Association of Journalists
