Naomi Ling is a specialist in employment law and in pensions law. She also practises and has significant experience in personal injury and public law, particularly in mental health.

In employment law, Naomi acts for an equal balance of claimants and respondents, across the entire range of employment law issues. Her practice currently focuses on multiday discrimination claims and union related claims in the employment tribunal and the civil courts. She is currently instructed on a test case relating to the construction of collective agreements in the county court, a disability discrimination case listed in the employment tribunal for three weeks later this year, and a claim for breach of contract of employment in the high court. She is increasing instructed to take over cases at EAT level, having appeared there unled five times in 2009. Recent successes also include defending an eight day discrimination claim after which costs of £10,000 were awarded and a disability discrimination claim in which a settlement of over £200,000 was achieved at mediation.

Naomi undertakes a significant amount of direct public access work which has brought her ability to work closely with lay clients to the fore. She is also alive to the pragmatic and tactical concerns of her solicitors and takes a ‘hands on’ approach to supporting them through case preparation.

In pensions law, Naomi undertook a six-month secondment at the leading pensions department of CMS Cameron Mckenna between 2007 and 2008 where she gained experience of all current pensions issues, from Ombudsman’s complaints to dealing with the Pensions Regulator and the Pensions Protection Fund. She has also advised members, trustees and employers on a wide range of legal points, including interpretation of the PPF legislation, the interpretation of trust deeds and rules, trustee liability and professional negligence in the pensions field. She is instructed unled in two high court matters listed for hearing in early 2010.

She has particular expertise in the Local Government Pension scheme, having advised both local authorities and private companies on outsourcing and pensions issues.
