Nathan Tavares specialises in personal injury, clinical negligence and professional negligence. He is predominantly involved in catastrophic injury claims involving brain or spinal injury, but is widely experienced in the full range of personal injury and clinical negligence litigation including inquests, CICA claims, and regulatory matters for example before the GMC and CAA. A significant part of his case load also includes horse riding accidents where he often acts for riding establishments.
Nathan has wide experience of professional negligence claims particularly arising out of personal injury or clinical negligence actions. He also has particular expertise in mental health law complimented by the fact he is a part-time President of the Mental Health Review Tribunal. He is a member of PIBA, PNBA, AVMA and MHLA, and is on the Register of Public Access Accredited Barristers. Some notable cases of his include : Blake v Galloway [2004] 1 WLR 2844, CA (leading case on the duty of care owed during horseplay); Freeman v Lockett [2006] PIQR P23 (claim to reduction in relation to state funding of care defeated); Gleeson v Court [2008] RTR 10 (contributory negligence for passenger travelling in boot of car driven by drunken driver held to 30%); Edwards v Devon & Cornwall Constabulary [2001] EWCA Civ 388 (appeal concerning the correct method of conducting summary assessment of costs); and Davies v Bradshaw [2008] EWHC 740 (QB)(assessment of damages for an incomplete tetraplegic including decision on provisional damages).
