Philip Mott QC has a very wide experience in civil and criminal law. Over the course of his career, he has appeared in many gross negligence manslaughter prosecutions, major fraud cases, clinical negligence claims for both claimants and defendants, personal injury work, local authority negligence claims, and many other areas of law.
Philip was Head of Chambers between 2004 and 2012, Leader of the Western Circuit between 2004 and 2007, and was involved with work for the Bar Council on a number of initiatives, having launched “Death of the Mention” and proposals for a simple and effective quality assurance scheme for advocates.
Philip now sits part-time in various jurisdictions – as a Deputy High Court Judge in the Queen’s Bench Division, and in the Administrative Court; as a Recorder of the Crown Court authorised to try rape and serious sexual offences; and as a Judge in the Mental Health Tribunal dealing with restricted patients. He is a Tutor Judge for the Judicial College criminal and serious sexual offences seminars. He is also Education Director and an advocacy trainer for the Western Circuit, and was a founder member of the Advocacy Training Council.
