Professor Ian Bailey SC was admitted as a barrister (Australia) in 1983 and appointed Senior Counsel in 2004.
He is recognised as one of Australia’s foremost construction practitioners, with a deep industry knowledge gained through his previous career as an architect (ten years on commercial and residential projects in Sydney).
With expertise in major construction disputes, commercial arbitrations and court references, he has acted in a wide range of disputes both locally and internationally. He has significant experience in all forms of dispute resolution, being an accredited Mediator, Adjudicator, Expert Determiner and Grade 1 Arbitrator. His practice includes the conduct of commercial and technical proceedings as an Arbitrator and Court Appointed Referee.
Ian held the position of National Vice President of the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia (IAMA) between 2004 and 2008. He is a Professorial Fellow of the University of Melbourne Law School and a Co-Director of Studies for the Construction Law Graduate Studies Programme.
