vCard Susan Freeborn
Susan's practice is divided between (a) civil work and (b) representation of children for CAFCASS Legal High Court Team, Guardians and representation of the Official Solicitor. Her civil work focuses on clinical negligence, embryology, abuse claims and contentious probate.
The approach she takes has a strong emphasis on client care and being accessible and approachable at every stage of the case.
Recent clinical negligence work has included a range of spinal cases, failure to diagnose TB, chondrosarcoma, numerous other oncological issues and testing the validity of a Jehovah's advance directive during labour.
Susan has appeared twice at the ECHR in Strasbourg on behalf of the Applicant in the frozen embryos case and has represented and provided training to Ofsted in relation to their regulatory duties under the Care Standards Act 2000. She has tested at the Care Standards Tribunal the various new duties imposed by this legislation.
Susan has also represented numerous applicants at the Residential Institutions Redress Board in Dublin. She continues to have the privilege of representing children in High Court litigation on behalf of the CAFASS High Court team, such cases invariably involving complex and fascinating legal and factual issues.
She acts as an advocacy trainer for the Western Circuit.
