Outer Temple Chambers public law team appear and advise in a large number of administrative and public law cases, with a particular emphasis on local government, healthcare and social welfare, and on public law issues connected with Chambers’ specialisms in other areas – these include the regulation of industry (with particular emphasis on the banking and financial services sectors and the transport industry), regulation of the professions (especially medical and legal), pensions, VAT and Duties / tax work, and discrimination law.
Public Law Barristers
Our public law barristers include leading experts in education law, the rights of disabled children and their carers, community care and discrimination law. This particularly involves work in the Court of Protection (and the High Court sitting in the COP jurisdiction), in relation to decisions about medical treatment, end of life decisions, community care, mental health law, education law and Coroner’s Inquests.
Members have been in several of the leading cases in the High Court in these areas in recent times. Already having several leading practitioners, Chambers is actively growing its work in these areas, in part to enhance and complement the service it can offer its existing substantial client base in the healthcare / social / local authority fields.
In addition to our work in these areas, members of Chambers regularly appear – and are particularly well placed to act – in relation to judicial reviews and other public law litigation referencing other areas of Chamber’s work, that give rise to public law issues. In connection with all these types of work members of the team are regularly in the Upper Tribunal, First-Tier Tribunal and the Administrative Court. A number of the team are on the Attorney General’s panels for civil litigation.
We can offer extensive litigation and advisory experience in the area of procurement law and members are able to advise economic operators, interested groups and contracting authorities on their obligations under this regime. Chambers and individual barristers have a long track record of representation at major public inquiries, and regularly appear at significant inquests (often providing ‘cross-over’ expertise with Chambers other core practice areas).
A number of the team are on the Attorney-General’s panels for civil litigation.
