United States of America

Clients in the United States can obtain a range of legal services and representation from an English qualified barrister.  This includes banking and financial services, fraud (including Foreign and Corrupt Practices Act/POCA cross), cartels, employment, professional discipline and regulation (especially in the FSA/Securities & Exchange Commission cross), conflict of laws  (often in product liability/ personal injury cases), cross jurisdictional professional negligence and any relevant work with a cross border element.

We can offer advisory work on law and procedure in England and Wales for US firms undertaking cross-jurisdictional casework and clients can come direct to us for specialist advocacy and representation if they have a legal issue which will be heard in the English Courts.  Our service is likely to be less expensive than going through London law firms and we can offer conference facilities in London and New York.

English barristers have a reputation for excellence in advocacy and this is as much in demand in arbitrations as before courts and other tribunals.  Our barristers offer an international arbitration and mediation service which can be conducted in our suite of offices in London, Abu Dhabi or New York.   International clients can directly instruct our barristers as their legal representatives in international arbitrations.  We can also acton the instructions of clients in the UK in international arbitration proceedings conducted in New York and elsewhere in the United States, whether under English or American law.

Our expert witness service offers barristers to serve as witnesses on civil and criminal law in the UK in US litigation and arbitrations.  In particular we are regularly called to provide evidence on issues of English commercial law in litigation in the United States.

Several of our barristers are members of the American Counsel Association.  We also have members who are qualified as attorneys in New York State, and who are registered with the New York State Bar as Foreign Legal Consultants.  Cyrus Vance Jnr., the District Attorney of Manhattan is an associate of Outer Temple Chambers.
