Alex Haines and Henry Reid to provide Sanctions Training in Kazakhstan alongside the British Embassy

Outer Temple’s sanctions law specialists, Alex Haines and Henry Reid are providing a sanctions training session alongside the British Embassy in Astana, Kazakhstan on Tuesday the 18th of June 2024.

The training session will focus on the Russia sanctions regimes implemented by the UK and US. The sessions will cover:

  1. Designated persons, ownership and control, financial and trade sanctions, enforcement, and compliance within the UK context;
  2. The role of sanctions in litigation and arbitration, focusing on contentious cases; and
  3. An overview of secondary sanctions in the US context.

The training aims to ensure that companies comply with specific regulations and standards, enabling employees to understand and adhere to these requirements. By doing so, the training helps minimise legal risks and promotes a safe, compliant work environment.

Alex and Henry will present throughout the day covering ‘The UK sanctions framework in practice’, ‘Sanctions in Litigation and Arbitration’ and ‘US Secondary Sanctions – Key Takeaways’. A full agenda can be found here.

Alex is a barrister called to both the English and Irish Bars and a US-qualified attorney admitted to the Bars of New York and Washington DC. He is a specialist in international law and sanctions, with rare expertise in the law of international organisations (IOs). Alex litigates before international courts and tribunals, mostly in Washington DC, New York City, London and the regional hubs for IOs such as Geneva, Vienna, Jeddah and Addis Ababa. The cases he has been instructed in have involved more than 40 IOs.

Henry’s practice covers a wide array of commercial, corporate and financial services matters with an emphasis on commercial litigation, contentious and non-contentious financial services, regulatory investigations, fintech, sanctions and banking law. Since moving to the Bar in 2022, Henry has been ranked by Legal 500 as a “Rising Star” in both Banking and Finance and Financial Services Regulation as well as a Leading Junior in the field of Crypto and Blockchain assets.
