Aliyah Akram has joined the award-winning personal injury team, based in London, further expanding our stable of specialists in travel law, industrial disease, and related group litigation.
Aliyah is ranked in Chambers & Partners for her cutting-edge personal injury practice and has a particular specialism in traumatic brain injury claims and fatal accident claims. She has also been involved in some of the largest personal injury group actions ever brought in the UK including against a major asbestos manufacturer and the Ministry of Defence. Her work frequently involves a cross-border element, from asbestos group claims in South Africa to cosmetic tourism claims, which has been recognised with a ranking in the International Injury Chambers & Partners table.
Aliyah is also ranked by both Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 UK in band/tier 2 for her industrial disease work, with Chambers & Partners 2024 describing her as having “significant expertise in cases involving issues surrounding immunotherapy costs.” Her experience in mesothelioma and asbestosis claims has afforded her a number of appearances in the Court of Appeal and the High Court and she has worked on ground breaking claims of product liability against a major asbestos manufacturer and claims seeking to redefine public liability insurance for asbestos claims.
The Personal Injury team has gone from strength to strength in 2023, with Outer Temple Chambers recently winning “Personal Injury Set of the Year” at the Chambers Bar Awards 2023 and a number of new members joining the fold. Aliyah said of her arrival at this pivotal time, “Outer Temple has an excellent reputation for their personal injury work and I am delighted to be joining the team during these exciting times. I have no doubt that this move will provide many opportunities and am looking forward to a great future here.”
Practice Director, Paul Barton, said “We are delighted to welcome Aliyah Akram to Outer Temple Chambers. She is a great addition to the team.”
