The application window for our mini-pupillage is now open; we are accepting applications up until 13th October 2024. Our winter mini-pupillage will run from Monday 9th December – Wednesday 11th December 2024. During the course of a three-day programme, mini-pupils attend a series of talks given by members of Chambers, participate in an advocacy exercise, and are taken on a walking tour of the Royal Courts of Justice and/or the Temple. Ian Denham’s successful High Court case provides further guidance on the application of Rome II regulations

Outer Temple’s Ian Denham has succeeded in obtaining judgment for his client at a preliminary issue High Court trial arising from a high-speed collision on a country lane between two racing vehicles. Ian Denham has succeeded in obtaining judgment in this preliminary issue which concerns a high-speed road traffic collision. The two vehicles were driven by a Mr Angelov and Mr Atanasov. The cars collided resulting in the death of Mr Angelov and with Mr Atanasov and the occupants of the vehicle driven by Mr Angelov sustaining serious injury. Both drivers were found equally culpable for the collision.  Ian was instructed to act for Mr Atanasov in Yordanov v Vasilev and Atanasov v Vasilev [2024] EWHC 1496 (KB). He was instructed…

Landmark settlement announced against MoD re Noise Induced Hearing Loss group claim

Harry Steinberg KC and Aliyah Akram have achieved a groundbreaking agreement in this group action on behalf of thousands of military personnel who suffered noise induced hearing loss whilst in service. The settlement was approved by the High Court on Monday 8 July. Working with Simon Ellis and the Military team at Hugh James Solicitors, Harry and Aliyah negotiated this landmark agreement in which the MoD has made significant concessions on issues of limitation and duty of care. Since the MoD accepts that the Hugh James group of claimants have been negligently exposed to excessive noise during service, thousands of former servicemen and women will now be able to claim compensation for their injury. Following applications made by Fiona and Oliver (& other co-defending counsel), the CPS offered no evidence. Background: between 2016 and 2017, 5 service users, who were residents at two care homes owned by the care provider, passed away. The 8 defendants faced an indictment containing 19 counts arising from the circumstances in which the 5 people died. The deceased were all residents in care homes. Andrew Spink KC and Justina Stewart have succeeded in securing a re-trial in (1) Gate Mena DMCC (2) Huobi Mena FZC v Tabarak Investment Capital Ltd and another DIFC CA-002-2023 (‘Huobi v Tabarak’). In a much anticipated judgment, the DIFC Court of Appeal (Justice Black KC giving the leading judgment) has reviewed the law in relation to digital assets, and developed DIFC jurisprudence in other areas.
