On 27 September, the DIFC published Consultation Papers[1] on a new Digital Assets Law, new Law of Security and proposed amendments to a wide range of DIFC Laws.[2] See the DIFC’s press release here. The proposed new laws and amendments constitute a first-of-its-kind approach to digital assets and secured transactions. Outer temples Ian Denham spoke at the joint AAJ-PEOIL event to discuss the outbreak of the Mycobacterium Abscessus pathogen at the Royal Papworth Hospital. The recording is now available. In this presentation, Ian Denham discusses his role in the Inquest that followed the deaths of two women following an outbreak of the Mycobacterium Abscessus pathogen at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge. The background Karen Starling, aged 54, and Anne Martinez, aged 65, both tested positive for Mycobacterium Abscessus (MA) after successfully undergoing double lung transplants at the Royal Papworth Hospital. A NHS serious incident report found that 21 patients with lung conditions were infected with MA in the months after the specialist heart and lung hospital opened in May 2019.…

Louis Weston, Head of the OTC Sports Group has been appointed as a Member of the International Boxing Association’s Dispute Resolution Chamber a division of the IBA’s Boxing Independent Integrity Unit. The Boxing Independent Integrity Unit (BIIU) deals with all ethical and disciplinary issues, as well as conducting eligibility checks and selecting candidates for elections and providing education and development services. Bianca Venkata, Jeremy Scott-Joynt, Patrick Tomison and Carin Hunt have been appointed to the C Panel, whilst Alex Cisneros has been appointed from the C to B panel. The Government Legal Department (GLD) administers the Attorney General’s Panel Counsel. The GLD relies on the junior counsel panel for advice and representation. Outer Temple’s Sam Cuthbert and David Seligman, of Brandsmiths, discuss the recent announcement that Juventus have been banned from this season’s Europa Conference League by Uefa for breaching FFP rules. In this short vlog, Sam and David talk about the recent decision, by Uefa to ban Juventus from the Europa Conference League and issue a fine of £17.14m for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP rules) in transactions between 2012-2019. Although Juventus have issued a statement rejecting the allegations, they have accepted the penalties. Meanwhile, Chelsea FC have also been fined for breaching the same rules.
