The High Court has clarified the approach to calculating statutory compensation for loss of office in respect of lost pension rights under the ‘Crombie Regulations.’ Joshua Cainer was instructed as sole counsel for the successful respondent. Harry Lambert and Elliott Courcha acted in the Court of Appeal in Taha v Capsugel, an international dispute between two heavyweight pharmaceutical companies. Harry and Elliott acted on behalf of Taha Pharmaceuticals in this high-value product liability claim concerning alleged breach of contract, conspiracy and deceit within the pharmaceutical supply chain. The case was pleaded at over £10M in value. Prior to Harry and Elliott’s instruction, Taha’s claim had been struck out for failure to comply with an unless order requiring them to put down security for costs. Taha then applied for relief from sanctions and subsequently appealed on the basis that payment of the security had been impossible owing to regulatory constraints imposed by the Ministry of Finance in Tunisia. The Court of Appeal has recently handed down judgment in Hampshire County Council v GC & GC [2026] EWCA Civ 20. Alex Line and Monique Bouffé were instructed to represent the Appellant local authority. Alex also appeared in the Upper Tribunal below. The decision provides important points of clarity about legal duties under the Children and Families Act 2014 that will affect children and young people with SEND, and local authorities, nationally. The case had unique facts, concerning a service family who were living abroad due to the father’s position in the navy. The period of absence was due to be three years but it transpired to be two. We are overjoyed to share that Lydia Seymour and Martina Murphy have been elevated to the ranks of King’s Counsel (Silk) in the 2025-2026 King’s Counsel competition, announced today. The title of KC is awarded to those who have demonstrated particular skill and expertise in the conduct of advocacy. His Majesty The King has approved the appointment, on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, of 96 barristers as new King’s Counsel (KC) in England and Wales. The Lord Chancellor is advised by a selection panel of senior representatives from across the legal sector, civil service, judiciary, and academia. Judgment has been handed down in Parkman (Trustee in Bankruptcy) v Dabir Ahmed and Ors [2025] EWHC 3500 (Ch). Ahmed Elhusseiny acted for the Applicant. ICC Judge Prentis refused to “prise open” costs order pursuant to Section 375 of the Insolvency Act 1986 where the Applicant raised allegations that reserved legal activities were carried out by non-qualified individuals contrary to the prohibition in section 13 of the Legal Services Act 2007.
