Ahmed Elhusseiny secured a positive result in an AIFC (Astana International Financial Centre) appeal, ensuring that the appeal was dismissed on all grounds. The judgment is not currently available in the public domain as the proceedings were held in private due to their sensitive nature. On 12 November 2025, the Prisons & Probation Ombudsman published his report following an independent investigation into failings at the Medomsley Detention Centre between 1961 and 1987. The report catalogued a shocking record of systemic sexual and physical abuse of young detainees in the centre and examined the circumstances in which two detainees died whilst incarcerated at the Detention Centre. The report concluded that Neville Husband, a member of staff at the Detention Centre “was possibly the most prolific sex offender in British history”. The report also found that victims who sought to report abuse were ignored, dismissed, threatened or punished. The report led to a formal apology from the UK Government. Sapan Maini-Thompson successfully represented the Appellant, Ms C O’Brien in the EAT after reconsideration of disability discrimination and unfair dismissal findings. Ms C O’Brien was employed as a ward manager by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust from 2009 until her dismissal in March 2021 following a disciplinary investigation. The Trust alleged that Ms O’Brien had failed to work her contracted hours and had on one occasion claimed overtime for hours not worked. After a lengthy investigation and disciplinary process, she was dismissed for misconduct. Ms O’Brien, who suffered from PTSD, anxiety, and depression, brought claims of disability discrimination (failure to make reasonable adjustments) and unfair dismissal before the Employment Tribunal (ET). James Counsell KC and Olinga Tahzib secured in excess of £700,000 gross for a former Private in the British Army at a settlement meeting on 23 October 2025. The Claimant’s claim was part of a group claim against the Ministry of Defence involving individuals who have suffered cold injuries in the course of their service. The Claimant had sustained a non-freezing cold injury to his feet when he was exposed to cold conditions during his military training in the early 2000s. Amongst other things, the Claimant had been required to dig trenches in freezing conditions and to wade through icy cold rivers without appropriate equipment. Employment barrister, Courtney Step-Marsden successfully represented the Appellant in the EAT in Yoosefinejad v East Space Ltd [2025] EAT 150. The Appellant began working for the Respondent in April 2023 as Operations Director, under a written contract that set an eight-week notice period for termination by either party, except in cases of gross misconduct. The company dismissed the Appellant in June 2023, within his three-month probationary period, paying him only until the end of that month, believing that the Appellant was only owed one week’s notice because he was still within his probationary period. Ahmed Ehusseiny successfully acted for the Petitioning Director in the Insolvency and Companies Court on the question of whether the court is prepared to exercise its “extraordinary jurisdiction” to go beyond a final judgment of the High Court. The Insolvency and Companies Court dismissed an attempt by Siobhain Crosbie, a psychotherapist, to resist a bankruptcy petition brought against her by Caroline Ley, another therapist, arising from a judgment debt of £237,753.78. The petition debt stemmed from a judgment of Knowles J following a contested trial in 2023 in which Ms Crosbie’s passing-off claim against Ms Ley was dismissed and Ms Ley’s counterclaims for defamation and harassment were upheld. James Counsell KC has secured £900,000 for a former Royal Navy chef at a settlement meeting on 5 September 2025. The settlement is believed to be to be one of the largest ever for this kind of injury. The Claimant’s naval service had been cut short after she suffered a condition known as ‘non-freezing cold injuries’, affecting both hands and feet as a result of exposure to extremely cold conditions on an exercise in Norway in 2019.
