Outer Temple members Jonathan Hand KC and Peter Linstead will be providing advanced advocacy skills training at the third and final part of the DIFC Laws Certificate programme. This training will take place on 23rd to 24th October 2023. The DIFC Academy are hosting a course named ‘Advanced Advocacy Skills‘ which is part of the DIFC Laws Certificate programme. This comprehensive training explores the application of traditional advocacy skills to activities routinely performed by lawyers. There will be series of both unassessed and assessed advocacy exercises. These exercises take the form of mock hearings covering submissions (written and oral), witness handling and general advocacy tips. They serve as useful refreshers for courtroom skills. Robert Dickason and Joshua Hitchens successfully secure dismissal of Contempt proceedings

Robert Dickason and Joshua Hitchens have secured the dismissal of Contempt Proceedings arising out of the widely reported case of Muyepa v Ministry of Defence [2022] EWHC 2648 (KB). Robert Dickason and Joshua Hitchens, instructed by Marc Livingston, Simon Barker and Catriona Virden of Janes Solicitors, have secured the dismissal of Contempt Proceedings brought against their clients, Brian and Racheal Muyepa. The Proceedings, which arose out of Mr. Muyepa’s record £3.7m claim for non-freezing cold injuries against the Ministry of Defence, will now not proceed to trial, meaning that Mr. and Mrs. Muyepa will not be found guilty of Contempt of Court and will not face the prospect of being committed to prison for Contempt of Court. Sean Yates has been published in an article for the Journal of International Dispute Settlement titled ‘New international commercial courts: a delocalized approach’. The Journal of International Dispute Settlement covers all forms of international dispute settlement and focuses particularly on developments in private and public international law that carry commercial, economic and financial implications. The article highlights that new international commercial courts can be analysed by examining how their features differ from those of their domestic counterpart courts and from those of international commercial arbitration. This conceptual tool is termed delocalization.
