The judgment of Linden J in R (AB) v Bristol City Council; R (ES) v Devon County Council; and R (JX) v Devon County Council [2025] EWHC 893 (Admin) was handed down on 10th April 2025, following a rolled up judicial review hearing held over three days. Alex Line represented the Secretary of State for Education, the Interested Party, in all claims. The judgment can be found here: AB, R (on the application of) v Bristol City Council. Outer Temple’s David E.Grant KC, Martina Murphy, Will Young and Chaitanya Kediyal named in the Pro Bono Recognition List 2025. Now in its second year, the List recognises solicitors, barristers, chartered legal executives and registered foreign/European lawyers both in private practice and in-house who provided pro bono legal assistance over the last year. The initiative is supported by the Law Society, the Bar Council, CILEX and all the major pro bono organisations under the aegis of the Attorney General’s Pro Bono Committee. Head of Outer Temple’s Sports Law team, Louis Weston has been published in the LawInSport magazine. The article acts as a guide for sports governing bodies on how they should put into effect anti-corruption policies and procedures governing the sport and the tournaments they deal with. Martina Murphy and Jessica Franklin have been published in the Discrimination Law Association Briefings paper dissecting the case of British Airways Plc v Rollett & Others [2024] EAT 131. Martina Murphy’s and Jessica Franklin’s article titled ‘A new class of claimant in discrimination law’ was included in the DLA March 2025 Briefing Paper (Volume 84, 1113-1126) following the decision of the EAT in British Airways Plc v Rollett & Others (where they acted for the claimants). The claimants, who numbered 49 at the time of the original preliminary hearing, were Heathrow-based cabin crew. Their claims arose out of restructuring and scheduling changes undertaken by BA in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Sarah Crowther KC has been appointed as one of the 14 members of England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) Cricket Discipline Panel (CDP). We are delighted to announce that Sarah Crowther KC has been appointed as a member of England and Wales Cricket Board’s Cricket Discipline Panel (CDP), effective from 1 April 2025. The Cricket Discipline Panel (CDP) will take over from the current Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC). The CDP is an independent tribunal which will hear and adjudicate on cases of alleged regulatory breaches in professional cricket, and decide what sanctions are appropriate for any breaches that are found to have occurred. Louis Weston acted for Table Tennis England in the prosecution of four players involved in betting on fixed outcomes in Table Tennis matches in Ukraine. Louis, the Head of Outer Temple’s Sports Law team acted for Table Tennis England in the case of players Luke Savill, Darius Knight, Joseph Langham-Ferreira and Kazeem Adeleke, where they were all found guilty of match fixing and unusual betting activity. The case arose from the match fixing by Australian Adam Green in 2021. The Gambling Commission began an investigation after receiving reports of unusual and suspicious betting activity from licensed operators on matches held in Ukraine in 2020 that were linked to British betting accounts.
