Outer Temple barristers to deliver Advanced Advocacy Skills training at the DIFC Academy

Seven members of Outer Temple Chambers will be involved in the ‘Advanced Advocacy Skills’ training, part of the DIFC Laws Certificate Programme 2025 in October at the DIFC Academy, Dubai. The DIFC Academy have invited Outer Temple Chambers to deliver the Advanced Advocacy Skills course as part of their DIFC Laws Certificate Programme 2025. The Times has named James Counsell KC ‘Lawyer of the Week’ after he acted for the BSB in disbarring Anu Mohindru KC after an allegation of dishonesty was found to be proved, relating to an application which he made for tenancy in 2012/13.  James Counsell KC was identified as Lawyer of the Week in The Times’ 1st October edition after his stellar performance in the recent Regulatory & Disciplinary case of Anu Mohindru KC. Inquest into the death of Azroy Dawes-Clarke

Ian Denham represented South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust in the inquest into the death of Azroy Dawes-Clarke. Azroy was a serving prisoner at HMP Elmley at the time of his death on 10 November 2021. He died after tying a ligature around his neck and subsequently being restrained by prison officers. The Interested Persons in the inquest included mental health staff employed by Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, healthcare staff employed by an independent agency, GPs, paramedics and prison staff. The article 2 inquest, which covered 18 days, examined issues surrounding the management of self-harm within the prison, inter-agency care of a patient in crisis and whether the use of force by prison officers was causative of Azroy’s…

Sarah Crowther KC and Sapan Maini-Thompson act for the English Blackball Pool Federation in discrimination claim

Outer Temple’s Sarah Crowther KC and Sapan Maini-Thompson successfully acted for the English Blackball Pool Federation in defending the discrimination claim brought against it by the transgender pool player, Harriet Haynes. This is the first judgment to apply the Supreme Court’s decision in For Women Scotland v The Scottish Ministers [2025] UKSC 16, which was handed down a few days after the end of the trial. Although the decision in FWS was sufficient to dispose of the claim, having heard expert evidence from Professor Joseph Formaggio and Dr Blair Hamilton for the Claimant, and Dr David Alciatore and Dr Emma Hilton for the Defendants, the court also set out its conclusions in relation to the sport exception under section 195…
