Robert Rhodes QC appointed Chairman of FRC Tribunal

The FRC has appointed Robert Rhodes QC to chair a Tribunal that will decide a complaint against the large accountancy firm, Mazars LLP, and one of its partners, arising from pension advice given in 2007. Robert Rhodes QC previously chaired the Tribunal that heard complaints in the proceedings brought by the Accountancy Investigation and Discipline Board relating to the collapse of the publicly quoted company Mayflower Plc.

An extraordinary art collection

Outer Temple is supporting Headway East London by hosting an exhibition of artwork created by survivors of brain injury. This one-night exhibition offers a unique opportunity to witness a specially commissioned collection of landscapes and abstracts, mapping the journey travelled by these artists from injury, through recovery, and into new life. Two awards for Outer Temple at Chambers UK bar awards 2013

We are delighted to announce that last night (3 Oct 2013) at the Chambers & Partners UK Bar Awards, Outer Temple was declared ‘Personal Injury / Clinical Negligence Chambers of the Year’ and that David Morris was awarded ‘Professional Discipline Junior of the Year’. The Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence teams earlier this month won the inaugural Legal 500 UK Award 2013 confirming Outer Temple’s dominance in this area of law. Outer Temple was also a finalist in the category Professional Discipline Set of the Year, a category won in 2012.

Robert Rhodes QC has been appointed to the Panel of Arbitrators of the Chinese Arbitration Association, Taipei. Robert already holds mediation and arbitration appointments with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the Lang Fang Arbitration Commission, and the Central University of Finance and Economics, Beijing.

Gerard McDermott QC and Harry Trusted acted in the case of a brain damaged boy who received £5 million payout from the NHS

Helen and Paul Rea from Ipswich have today received court approval for a financial settlement which will ensure that their son Joseph, who has cerebral palsy, can be given the appropriate care and support that he will need for the rest of his life.

Ben Compton QC secures acquittal in the latest legionella prosecution

After a 3 year battle, the HSE finally offered no evidence against Balticare Ltd, the sister company of Balticare Aircoil Ltd (a manufacturer of cooling towers in the USA), at Shrewsbury Crown Court. The HSE, had been alleging design faults on the FXV and CXV Evaporative Condensers installed in the UK from the late 1990’s and despite the fact that there had never been any outbreak of legionella and against a background of substantial co-operation by Balticare, decided to charge the company with breaching Section 6(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
