Prior to pupillage, Alex worked as a self-employed County Court Advocate, where he appeared in a variety of hearings, including road traffic, credit hire, and landlord and tenant matters.

Alex graduated from the University of Oxford with First Class Honours in Jurisprudence, and returned to Oxford, completing the Bachelor of Civil Law and Master of Philosophy postgraduate degrees. His Master of Philosophy thesis focused on the Braganza duty (Braganza v BP Shipping [2015] UKSC 17) and in particular how the courts should review the exercise of contractual discretions. Alex went on to complete the Bar Course at City, University of London.

Whilst at University, Alex was a member of the Oxford Student Union’s LGBTQ+ and Disability Campaigns, including a short stint as Co-Chair of the LGBTQ+ Campaign.
