Chaitanya Kediyal

Chaitanya accepts instructions across Chambers’ core areas. He has successfully worked in counsel teams of various sizes. However, he regularly acts as sole counsel in matters before the High Court, County Court, and the Employment Tribunal.

Chaitanya has built a broad practice covering commercial disputes, civil fraud, employment law, professional discipline and regulatory law, international arbitration, insolvency and company law, industrial disease, group litigation, sports, digital assets and AI law, business crime, and contempt proceedings. He also has experience of disputes with an international element, particularly those with an emphasis on the Middle East.

Recent highlights of Chaitanya’s practice include:

  • Working on the DIFC AI Law project with other members of Outer Temple Chambers.
  • Assisted in a 2-day LCIA Arbitration arising out of a dispute in the aviation industry.
  • Acted for the successful respondent in a 7-day final hearing in the Employment Tribunal. This involved cross-examining a vulnerable claimant in accordance with the Presidential Guidance.
  • Acting for the defendant in contempt proceedings for alleged breach of an Injunction Order.
  • Advised the chair of accelerated misconduct hearings in the Metropolitan Police Service.

As a testament to the breadth of his work, Chaitanya has been instructed in matters before the Employment Appeal Tribunal, Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, Metropolitan Police Misconduct Hearing Panel, Football Association’s Regulatory Commission, the Inns’ Conduct Committee, the Magistrates’ Court, the Coroners’ Court and the First-tier Tribunal (War Pensions and Armed Forces Compensation).

Prior to coming to the Bar, Chaitanya taught the law of trusts at the LSE and interned at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre. He holds a first-class law degree from the University of Oxford, winning the Gibbs Book Prize for his performance in the core private law modules. Chaitanya stayed on to read for the BCL, which he obtained with Distinction. He took papers in commercial, insolvency and property law.

  • Defended a claim for breach of contract and data protection law on behalf of a major telecommunications provider in the County Court.
  • Defended a claim in the County Court for the agreed sum under a contract for the supply of services in the context of off-payroll working regulations.
  • Assisted in the landmark cryptocurrency 3-day appeal in the DIFC Court of Appeal in Huobi MENA v Tabarak Investment Capital Ltd.
  • Assisted in a 3-day trial defending a claim for breach of a contract of sale including issues of third-party financing and assignment of causes of action.
  • Assisted in a 1-day hearing in the Commercial Court of an application to amend pleadings and a cross-application for reverse summary judgment.
  • Assisted in the long-running Dwyer (UK Franchising) Limited v Fredbar Limited litigation concerning the enforcement of a franchising agreement.

  • Acting for the respondent in an Insolvency Act Application under a r.15.35 IR 2016 appeal in the High Court by a creditor against the decisions of the chair at a creditor.
  • Assisted in drafting pleadings and preparing an urgent interim injunction against a director in a family-run farming business operating through a general partnership and a limited company.
  • Assisted in preparing advice in conference on the enforcement of a restrictive covenant under a share purchase agreement.
  • Assisted with an interim application for injunctive relief by a corporate tenant against a landlord in the context of statutory relief against forfeiture.
  • Appeared in the Winding up Court to present petitions for compulsory liquidation.

  • Successfully dismissed an ET claim for c. £350k for alleged direct discrimination (disability) and failure to make reasonable adjustments on time limits.
  • Successfully dismissed an ET claim for unfair dismissal on time limits.
  • Acted for the claimant in a 5-day ET trial in claims for disability discrimination against an NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Advised in conference on a potential claim for unpaid remuneration under a consultancy agreement against a company.
  • Assisted in the successful dismissal of an appeal in the EAT on the relevance of final written warning for capability and performance in a claim for unfair dismissal.

Notable Pensions & Trusts cases


  • Assisted in drafting a skeleton argument and a confidential opinion on behalf of a representative beneficiary in an uncontested application for summary judgment on claims for rectification of the rules of a trust-based occupational pension scheme.
  • Assisted in preparing for a multi-party mediation in a claim for professional negligence by the employer and trustees of pension scheme against a solicitors’ firm, with administrative and actuarial service providers, and the scheme’s advisor as additional parties.
  • Assisted in preparing advice in conference on the effective transfer of an equitable interest in real property under the terms of a will.

  • Acted for the Football Association in a sanction hearing against the Head Coach of a EFL Championship club.
  • Successfully acted for the Football Association in proving a charge of misconduct against a Football Manager for improper behaviour towards a Match Official.

  • Successfully represented an applicant to an Inn of Court at fitness to practice hearing before the Inns’ Conduct Committee.

  • Assisted in drafting a chapter on sanctions in a leading practitioners’ textbook on banking law.
