Charlotte is a barrister with a busy practice in employment law and discrimination law. She complements her employment and discrimination law practice with other services across Chambers’ specialisms including inquests, personal injury, clinical negligence and public law.

Charlotte’s employment practice spans the full range of employment and discrimination matters in the employment tribunal and county courts. She is regularly instructed in the employment tribunal for both claimants and respondents across a wide range of claims, not limited to but, including worker status; unfair dismissal; whistleblowing; disability, race and gender reassignment discrimination and equal pay.

Her recent work includes:

  • Successfully representing a claimant in a worker status and unauthorised deductions claim at a trial, where her written submissions were commended by the Tribunal;
  • Acting as junior counsel in a complex multi-day race and disability discrimination claim against NHS England, assisting with witness evidence, cross-examination preparation and settlement negotiations;
  • Advising on a potential large-scale worker status group claim;
  • Making and resisting applications to amend and strike out claims for both respondents and claimants, with a strong track record in contested case management hearings;
  • Regularly drafting pleadings, lists of issues and opinions for trade union clients including the UCU, RCN and Community Union.

Charlotte has also had extensive training in and accepts instructions in personal injury and clinical negligence. Charlotte holds a particular interest in inquests and inquiries, particularly where deaths or serious incidents arise out of workplace conditions, or public authority and medical body failures.

Charlotte is also developing a practice in public law. Prior to pupillage, she worked as a public law researcher to senior barristers specialising in public and administrative law.

Before coming to the Bar, Charlotte worked in Parliament as a researcher and speechwriter to an MP, specialising in economic and education policy. During her time in Parliament, she managed responses to bills and honed her knowledge of the legislative process. A highlight of Charlotte’s work was advocating for self-employed mothers who were excluded from the Johnson government’s pandemic income support schemes. Charlotte’s previous experience of working in politics makes her particularly attuned to new legislative developments and gives her a strong contextual understanding of the political objectives behind new legislation.

Charlotte is also an opinion writer, who has written for a public law blog and contributed to British and Italian publications including The House MagazineIl Fatto QuotidianoThe Fabian Society and Legal Cheek.

Charlotte is a native speaker of Italian and English, and a competent French speaker. She accepts instructions in the Italian language.

Expertise

Charlotte regularly appears the employment tribunal for both claimants and respondents across a wide range of claims. She holds a particular interest in worker status law and has undertaken complex advisory work in a large-scale worker status claim and successfully secured worker status for a dancer at trial.

Charlotte regularly shares her expertise in employment law and has run training events for legal teams on practical employment tribunal advocacy skills and new provisions of the ERA 2025.

Publications

Charlotte accepts instructions in personal injury and clinical negligence matters, with experience across advisory work, drafting and litigation support. She is instructed on cases involving employer’s liability, road traffic accidents and claims involving minors, and has experience advising on liability, quantum and settlement strategy.

In clinical negligence work, she has undertaken detailed disclosure analysis in complex cases involving serious and life-changing injuries.

  • Conducting large-scale disclosure analysis in a complex clinical negligence claim involving catastrophic injury

Charlotte holds a particular interest in inquest work and is developing a wider practice in inquests and inquiries. During pupillage she received specialist training in inquests and advocacy in the Coroner’s courts. She holds experience of assisting counsel in coronial proceedings on behalf of the family, including in Article 2 inquests. Charlotte has a particular interest in cases involving vulnerable individuals and issues engaging public law and human rights principles. Charlotte accepts instructions for both PIRH, final inquest hearings and advisory matters.

Charlotte intends to develop a complementary public law practice. She is particularly interested in the intersection between human rights law in the context of inquests and inquiries, and wider judicial review.

During her Bar Course, Charlotte previously worked as a public law researcher to senior public and administrative law barristers. In pupillage, Charlotte assisted senior counsel with advisory work in modern slavery cases involving employment, personal injury and human rights law principles.

Charlotte has been trained in judicial review and is open to receiving instructions in this area.
