Edward Morgan KC’s practice focuses on employment law, commercial law, disciplinary and regulatory work and inquests  as well as mediation and arbitration. As part of his regulatory law practice, he has cultivated extensive experience in a number of specialist sectors, including the NHS and Canon Law of the Catholic Church and is regularly instructed to provide strategic advice and conduct governance investigations and reviews in these areas.

He regularly writes case reviews for LexisNexis and professional book reviews for specialist journals, including the Ecclesiastical Law Journal and the Canon Law Society of Great Britain and Ireland. He has written and presented specialist papers to a variety of multi-disciplinary and specialist audiences. He is a Fellow of the University of Cardiff and a Visiting Professor at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.

Edward studied in England (LLB and LLM) and Belgium (JCL, PhD and JCD) and is a dual tenant at St John Street Chambers in Manchester. His judicial appointments include Employment Judge (2000) and Assistant Coroner (2019).

Ed has also recently renewed his practice certificate in the Bar of Northern Ireland.

Expertise

Edward has extensive experience of all forms of employment law on behalf of Respondents. His employment work includes all aspects of the Tribunal and High Court jurisdictions; with an emphasis upon claims with commercial and regulatory components.

Cases have ranged from multiple claimant actions arising out of harmonisation of terms and conditions or TUPE, to multi-faceted whistleblowing and discrimination claims within specialist sectors. He regularly appears for corporate respondents, NHS Trusts, local authorities other public sector bodies.

Edward’s High Court work regularly involves issues of director’s duties, fiduciary accountability and related shareholder, restrictive covenants, confidentiality and data protection.

His extensive experience in Ecclesiastical and Canon Law led to his appointed to draft the rules of procedure for the National Tribunal Service of the Catholic Church in England & Wales.  In this specialist regulatory field, he provides strategic and compliance advice in relation to administration of trusts, Trustee duties, administration of property, clergy discipline and constitutional reform.

Since 2020, he has served as the Canonical Advisor to the Safeguarding Commission in the Archdiocese of Westminster.
