Based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, John has over 25 years of tax law experience, specialising in UK and UAE tax, with an expertise in cross-border tax matters. His practice focusses on UAE, UK and international tax advisory services to law firms, sovereign funds, family offices, companies and individuals.
Prior to setting up his tax consultancy practice in 2023, John spent 11 years as head of Asia-Pac tax at ADIA, a very significant Abu Dhabi based sovereign wealth fund, with focus on structuring its investments in infrastructure, private equity, real estate and hospitality, and dealing with the multi- jurisdictional tax, regulatory and legal complexities of those cross-border capital flows. Additionally, he was head of the ADIA UAE VAT team, responsible for drawing up policies and implementing UAE VAT across ADIA.
Before moving to ADIA, John headed up Clifford Chance LLP’s Gulf tax practice. He spent 15 years at large international law firms, Pinsent Masons LLP (3 years) and Clifford Chance LLP (12 years, the last two based in the UAE), advising on a broad spectrum of transactions covering M&A tax, investment structuring, corporate restructurings, tax structured finance and securitisations, all of which generally involved cross-border tax matters.
