Before being called to the Bar, Elizabeth lectured in Japanese History at the University of Newcastle. She completed a PhD in Japanese and Korean cultural history at Trinity College, University of Cambridge, where she supervised students in East Asian History. She holds a double first-class degree in Japanese and Korean from the University of Oxford (St. Hilda’s College), and a Master of Studies degree in Modern Japanese Literature (Pembroke College), as well as having spent time in several universities in Japan and Korea, including Keio University in Tokyo and Sungkyungkwan University in Seoul.

Elizabeth is also an advocate for improving end of life care, and sits on the steering committee of Byw Nawr/Dying Matters Wales. She works with the National Council for Palliative Care.

Private Client

During pupillage, Elizabeth saw a range of Chambers work in this area with Claire van Overdijk, including contentious probate proceedings. She assisted Claire in the Court of Appeal in MN v OP (2018) on the question of privacy in variation of trusts cases.

Elizabeth has a keen interest in this area, which has included delivering a talk on testamentary capacity for Chambers’ private client group.
