David’s reappointment is effective 1 May 2021. The China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) was established in April 1956 under the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. Since 2000, it has also been known as the Arbitration Court of the China Chamber of International Commerce. CIETAC is based in Beijing and has a number of sub-commissions throughout China, including in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Tianjin, as well as a Hong Kong Arbitration Center, which was set up in 2012. CIETAC and its sub-commissions/arbitration centers constitute a single arbitration institution.
CIETAC maintains a Panel of Arbitrators which uniformly applies to itself and all its sub-commissions/arbitration centers. Each party of an arbitration parties nominates an arbitrators from the Panel of Arbitrators provided by CIETAC.
David has been reappointed to this panel due to his particular expertise in the field of international arbitration. David has represented clients in numerous arbitrations conducted under various international institutional rules and in ad hoc arbitrations. He was one of the first lawyers to conduct an Emergency Arbitration Procedure under the ICC Rules of Arbitration and he has previously been listed as a “leader at the Bar” in the field of international arbitration by Chambers and Partners, who referred to his ability to “present complex technical information in a user friendly manner.”
David is a specialist in international trade law and international commercial dispute resolution. David spent part of his career living and working in China (mainland and Hong Kong) and is a registered foreign lawyer (Hong Kong). Alongside sitting as an arbitrator at CIETAC, David is also appointed to the panel of arbitrators by SCIA (Shenzhen), C.A.A (Taipei) and THAC (Bangkok).
