“Expert Evidence Beyond Borders” – Gerard McDermott KC to speak at the Chicago Bar Association during the ABA Annual Meeting

Gerard McDermott KC has organised and will moderate a seminar hosted by the Chicago Bar Association in conjunction with the General Council of the Bar on 1st August; ‘Expert Evidence Beyond Borders: A Comparative View from the US and the UK’.

Gerard will moderate a seminar hosted by the Chicago Bar Association on Thursday 1st August; ‘Expert Evidence Beyond Borders: A Comparative View from the US and the UK’ during a trip to the Chicago legal district with some of his Travel Law Team colleagues.

An expert in cross-border claims with a particular interest in the US and unrivalled connections across the US, Gerard McDermott KC will be discussing ‘Expert Evidence Beyond Borders: A Comparative View from the US and the UK’ in Chicago alongside a panel of experts: Sam Townend KC of Keating Chambers, Amrit Kaur Dhanoa of 4-5 Gray’s Inn Square, Tracy Brammeier of Clifford Law Offices, and Andrew Vail of Jenner & Block. This unique event will see the international panel engage in a comparative analysis of how expert evidence is used in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Ben Bradley, Carin Hunt and Paul Barton will also be in Chicago for the ABA Annual Meeting and will be catching up with very many friends of OTC in Chicago – in particular the team at Clifford Law Offices.

Gerard McDermott KC

Gerard McDermott KC practises from London and Manchester in England. His main areas of practice are Personal Injury, Travel Law and Employment Law.

He is a former President of the American Counsel Association and former Leader of the European Circuit of the Bar. In addition, and in recognition of his long time involvement with the American Bar Association, Gerard was the first recipient of a Presidential Citation from the ABA in. He is admitted in New York has an unrivalled network of legal contacts in states across America.

Ben Bradley

Ben Bradley has undertaken cross-jurisdictional personal injury work since he started at the Bar, managing hundreds of group actions against major tour operators over the years. He recently acted for over 1,000 Indian Nationals who variously suffered injuries whilst being exposed to mercury in a thermometer factory; and for a number of Indian Nationals who suffered serious injuries in a RTA whilst visiting the UK.

In the field of aviation, Ben has been instructed to act (against Leading Counsel) for a number of soldiers who suffered career ending injuries when a Voyager aircraft entered a steep dive. He is an avid aviation enthusiast, holding both a UK PPL (with associated IR(R) and Night Ratings) and a South African Foreign Licence Validation. He is frequently instructed to advise on liability disputes arising from general aviation accidents.

Carin Hunt

Carin is ranked as Up and Coming in ‘Travel: International Personal Injury’ in Chambers and Partners. She edits the ‘Accidents Abroad’ Chapter for the APIL Personal Injury looseleaf.

She has a busy travel and cross-border practice and is regularly instructed in injury claims with a foreign element. She also regularly appears in the county court in respect of claims involving the Package Travel Regulations 1992 and the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018. Carin’s experience of package travel claims extends to those involving fatal accidents.

Paul Barton

Paul Barton is the Practice Director for the Travel and International Injury Team at Outer Temple Chambers. He is responsible for the development and promotion of barristers within his team and has a proven track record of developing new business and building strong relationships both internationally and domestically, whilst maintaining a high standard of service delivery for both members and clients.

Paul is a member of PEOPIL (Pan-European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers), and regularly attends conferences across the UK and throughout Europe. He also plays an influential role in the development of Chambers’ brand in the USA with a particular focus on Chicago. He is an Associate Member of the ABA (American Bar Association).
