Outer Temple Chambers mental health team represents, individuals, local and central government and health bodies. The specialist team has particular expertise in cases involving, the rights of those with learning disabilities, those who are mentally ill, disabled, and the rights of children and young adults in the provision of community care and healthcare services.

Mental Health Experience

Our team of mental health barristers are appointed to the panel of chambers for Adult Social Care work by the London Boroughs Legal Alliance. The team is also often instructed by the Official Solicitor and solicitors firms acting for NHS Trusts. Members ally strong intellectual qualities with sound technical skills and a reputation for good judgement and client handling skills, backed up by an efficient and responsive clerking team.

The team undertakes both advisory work and litigation across this area of practice, including judicial review, the rights and obligations of local authorities to children, parents and carers, the interrelationship between social services and health authorities, continuing NHS healthcare funding, ordinary residence disputes, mental health aftercare, procurement advice in social care and healthcare, persons without immigration status and public sector equality duties.
