Ian Denham appointed to the PEOPIL EU-UK Working Group and Position Paper is published

International injury specialist Ian Denham has been appointed to sit on the EU-UK Working Group of the Pan European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers (PEOPIL) together with a panel of expert lawyers from across the UK and Europe.

The first step of the Workgroup has been to publish its first Position Paper: “Rights of Personal Injury & Fatal Accident Victims in the Field of Jurisdiction and Enforcement – A Call for EU-UK Cooperation.”

A copy of the Paper can be found here.

Ian, who sits as the PEOPIL General Board Member for England & Wales played a pivotal role in successfully advocating for the creation of the Workgroup and drafted an initial position paper together with colleagues Phil Banks (of Irwin Mitchel), Craig Evans (of Clyde & Co), Chris Deacon (of Stewarts) and Simon Richards (of Digby Brown) to support their submissions to the PEOPIL Executive Board.

The Workgroup has moved swiftly to produce a Position Paper with the clear objective to seek to achieve either the UK’s re-accession to the Lugano Convention or for the EU and UK to agree to a new bilateral regime that protects the most vulnerable parties in cross-border disputes.

The PEOPIL EU-UK Workgroup is comprised of:

  • Chris Deacon, Stewarts (Chair)
  • Ian Denham, Outer Temple Chambers
  • Katherine Allen, Hugh James
  • Phil Banks, Irwin Mitchell
  • Marco Bona, Studio Legale Bona Oliva e Associati
  • Craig Evans, Clyde & Co
  • Maud Lepez, RWK Goodman
  • Liam Moloney, PEOPIL Vice-President
  • Simon Richards, Digby Brown
  • Ana Romero Porro, PEOPIL President

On 28 November 2025, Ian will be addressing the APIL International Injuries Conference in London on the topic of “Brexit – 5 years on: The impact on international injury victims”. As part of his presentation, he looks forward to updating delegates as to the progress made by the Working Group.
