Outer Temple Chambers hosted a Travel Law Conference in Manchester on 25th April 2024 together with a selection of esteemed guests from the travel law industry. This was a hybrid event and the recordings are now available online. This was the fourth and final panel session of the conference, chaired by Gerard McDermott KC and discussed by panellists Ian Denham (Outer Temple Chambers), Thomas Ricard (JP Karsenty) and James Riley (Irwin Mitchell).
Gerard McDermott KC practises from England and is based in London and Manchester. His main areas of practice are Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice and Employment Law at all levels, although he maintains a diverse practice across the Common Law and Commercial fields. Gerard acts for both Claimants and Defendants. He represents clients with a vast range of injuries arising from negligence, including medical malpractice and road traffic accidents. The majority of his caseload involves catastrophic personal injury such as spinal cord injury and brain injury, and he has over thirty years’ experience of the same
Ian Denham is a personal injury practitioner with a particular expertise in matters involving serious and catastrophic injuries, wrongful deaths and accidents abroad. He has a particular interest in case with an international element, including claims raising conflicts of law and jurisdictional issues. He prides himself on providing a friendly service and looks to provide creative, practical and commercial advice to his clients.
Lawyer at JP Karsenty since 2014, and became a partner in 2017, Thomas Ricard started his career in London as a solicitor (England & Wales) at Linklaters, whose Paris office he then joined in 2011. Former Secretary of the Conference, Thomas acts in litigation, insurance law and criminal business law. He works with French and foreign clients in these areas, combining efficiency, pragmatism and responsiveness.
James Riley is an Associate Solicitor in the International Serious Injury Department based in Birmingham. He acts exclusively for UK citizens who have suffered life-changing injuries due to serious accidents whilst either on holiday or working abroad. He also acts for foreign citizens who’ve been involved in accidents in the UK. James has acted for seriously injured Claimants in a wide variety of cases, including catastrophic road traffic accidents, accidents at work, medical negligence, sexual assault, rape and fatal accidents.
