Louis Weston appointed as a member of the IFHA Council on Anti-Illegal Betting & Related Crime

We are delighted to announce that our Head of Sports Law, Louis Weston, has been appointed to The International Federation of Horseracing Authorities’ Council on Anti-Illegal Betting & Related Crime (IFHA Council).

The IFHA Council on Anti-Illegal Betting & Related Crime is a think tank comprised of members from organisations engaged in horse racing and sports integrity, law enforcement, the UNODC, and academia. Louis has been appointed alongside two fellow experts, US-based J Curtis Linnell (Executive Vice President of the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau), and Swiss/ Hong Kong sports lawyer Vincent Van (UEFA’s Head of Anti-Match-Fixing), to “further the intellectual capacity of the Council”, says Martin Purbrick, Chair of the IFHA Council. 

Louis Weston has specialised in Sports Law for over 15 years and has appeared in many of the leading cases in the UK and around the world involving corruption and ethics in sport. He acts as counsel and arbitrator for Sports Governing Bodies and National and International Federations, athletes and their representatives in anti-doping, match fixing and corruption, safeguarding, selection disputes and in on-field disputes and appeals.

He is already appointed to the FA’s Judicial Panel as a Specialist Member, the FA’s Anti- Discrimination Panel as a Judicial Member, the International Boxing Association’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, the Independent Ethics Board of the World Anti-Doping Agency, as well as Sports Resolutions and Sport Disputes Ireland’s arbitral panels.
