Lucian ILIE to speak at the 9th edition of Paris Arbitration Week

Lucian Ilie will be speaking at the 9th edition of Paris Arbitration Week taking place from 7th April to 11th April 2025 in Paris.

The Paris Arbitration Week, organized by YRAP (Young Romanian Arbitration Practitioners) and sponsored by Lexters, is an institution organizing a week of events, annually, aimed at connecting, whether in person or virtually, the worldwide community of arbitration practitioners, boosting rich academic debate and promoting Paris as the eternal home of international arbitration.

Lucian Ilie will be speaking alongside Liana Cercel of Young Romanian Arbitration Practitioners (YRAP), Iulia Anghelescu of Tuca Zbarcea & Asociatii, Rodica Turtoi of Peter & Kim, and Armand Terrien on Monday 7th April 2025 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at Ashurst LLP. The speakers will discuss the topic of Anchoring Arbitration: Rethinking the Role of the Seat. The discussion will be moderated by Bogdan Voinov of Ashurst. The panel discussion will cover:

• The historical evolution of the seat concept and its architects
• Competing theoretical frameworks: from autonomous arbitral orders to state-centered approaches
• Comparative insights from practitioners qualified in multiple jurisdictions, including the UK, Switzerland and France

Lucian Ilie is an English barrister and French and Romanian avocat specialising in international law, transnational litigation and international arbitration, with particular expertise in investor-State disputes and commercial arbitration cases. With over 10 years of experience in London and Paris, Lucian has acted as counsel and arbitrator in more than 20 international arbitral proceedings brought under many of the major arbitration rules (including the ICSID, UNCITRAL, PCA, SCC, ICC, LCIA, SCAI, CEPANI and VIAC rules), governed by civil law and common law (including under International/EU, English, French, Swiss and Romanian law) with seat of arbitration in England, France, Switzerland, Romania, Belgium and Austria. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and is listed as arbitrator at several arbitration institutions.
