The PEOPIL conferences offer a great opportunity to network and to share knowledge. Members of Outer Temple regularly provide talks/attend PEOPIL events throughout the year. Gerard, Sarah, Ian and Aliyah are attending the Joint Conference of the Product Liability/Pharmaceutical/Mass Tort and RTA & Whiplash SIGs later on this week for the two day event.
Ian Denham, (PEOPIL representative for England and Wales & Secretary of the PEOPIL RTA & Whiplash EEG) will chair a panel session taking place on the afternoon of Friday the 7th of June. Ian, Michał Krzanowski and Dorothy Clay Sims will discuss ‘How do Different Jurisdictions Treat Claims Involving Subtle Brain Injury?’. Gerard McDermott KC – Gerard’s main areas of practice are Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice and Employment Law at all levels, although he maintains a diverse practice across the Common Law and Commercial fields. Gerard acts for both Claimants and Defendants. He represents clients with a vast range of injuries arising from negligence, including medical malpractice and road traffic accidents. The majority of his caseload involves catastrophic personal injury such as spinal cord injury and brain injury, and he has over thirty years’ experience of the same.
Sarah Crowther KC – Sarah has a broad practice with areas of focus in personal injury, private international law, clinical negligence and public law and discrimination cases. Sarah has experience in all claims for injury, illness or accident with an international element, including advising on European law issues especially concerning the EU Motor Insurance Directives and disputes over jurisdiction and applicable law. She has appeared in recent high-profile cases in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court and is experienced in working with expert evidence of foreign law and handling claims to which foreign law applies.
Ian Denham – Ian is a personal injury practitioner with a particular expertise in matters involving serious and catastrophic injuries, wrongful deaths and accidents abroad. He has a particular interest in case with an international element, including claims raising conflicts of law and jurisdictional issues.
Aliyah Akram – Aliyah is well known for her cutting-edge work in the personal injury field. She has extensive expertise in catastrophic injury claims and has acted for numerous claimants who have suffered traumatic brain injury in road traffic and cycling accidents. She is currently instructed in a claim on behalf of a girl who nearly drowned in a swimming pool in Spain and suffered a brain injury. Aliyah also acts in fatal accident claims and has appeared in several significant High Court cases including the family of a teenager involved in a go-karting accident and a mother killed in a hit-and-run accident.
