Show them who’s boss – employment tribunal boot camp for employers

On Thursday 7 June, members appeared in a mock-tribunal developed and organised by Excello Law, in conjunction with Outer Temple Chambers and in front of a large number of corporate clients. James Arnold sat as an Employment Judge with Gus Baker and Victoria Brown, as advocates. The event also attracted interest from The Times. The idea behind the event was to ‘give them a taste of what it is like to be grilled by a top-notch employment barrister’. New edition of Employment Law Handbook published

Law Society Publishing have published the 7th edition of the Employment Law Handbook, by Daniel Barnett, Gus Baker and Stephen Butler. The new edition has been substantially rewritten to provide a practical and thorough consideration of all difficult employment law issues, with a special focus on the problems HR professionals and employment lawyers may encounter as we approach 2020. Litigants anonymous: the tribunal database and anonymity

In an article published in the latest ELA Briefing, Emily Gordon Walker and Gus Baker of Outer Temple Chambers discuss the impact of the new employment tribunals decisions database and provide advice for litigants about making applications for anonymity and restricted reporting. Emily and Gus discuss employment tribunals’ powers to make orders protecting individuals’ identities from publication. The article discusses the relevant case law in relation to such orders (including BBC v Roden and Fallows v NGN) and emphasises the importance of particularising exactly how an applicant’s Article 8 rights will be infringed if their name is published.
