They also act for these clients to challenge claims that a US court has jurisdiction over them. In her most recent article, Teresa Rosen Peacocke discusses recent efforts by plaintiffs to expand the definition of specific jurisdiction (requiring a foreign defendant’s US activities to have given rise to the plaintiff’s claim) so that a defendant’s general activities can be linked to a claim on the basis of a ‘sliding scale’. Michael Bowes QC, David Russell QC, Teresa Rosen Peacocke and Christophe Jolk participated in the New York State Bar Association’s Season Meeting in Paris last week (October 19-21). Chambers has a close association with the Chair of the NYSBA International Section, Neil Quartaro (Wilson, Farley and Williams LLP), through David Russell QC. This prestigious event took place on the Ile de la Cité, next to the Palais de Justice. It was attended by a high calibre group of lawyers from many different jurisdictions. David and Christophe participated in a panel which discussed the Common Reporting Standard and Automatic Exchange of Information, with particular reference to the wealth industry. We are delighted to announce that Teresa Rosen Peacocke has recently joined us. Teresa is an American, called to the English Bar in 1982 and admitted as an attorney in New York in 2004. She practises in London and from Chambers’ New York office as both an English Barrister and a New York attorney. Teresa is a welcome addition to our team and greatly strengthens our presence in New York. In addition, Teresa is an accredited and experienced mediator, an experienced Arbitrator and Fellow of the Royal Institute of Arbitrators, and a Governor of the Anglo-American Real Property Institute.
