Barristers offer Zoom Discussion for BPTC students over recent exam problems with BSB and Pearson VUE

An independent group of barristers are providing a forum, chaired by OTC, for BPTC students to discuss and get advice about the difficulties encountered taking their exams this summer. The Bar Standards Board (BSB) exams have not gone well so far this year, first being postponed due to Covid-19, then suffering technical problems during the online exams. Back in May, the BSB announced that the centralised assessments on the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) and the Bar Transfer test (BTT) would be offered as computer based exams in August after the April exams had to be cancelled. Pearson VUE’s OnVUE secure global online proctoring solution was supposed to enable students and transferring qualified lawyers to sit the exams remotely. However…

The school decided to go to the High Court to challenge a number of OSA findings that aspects of its arrangements for 2014 and 2015 had breached the schools admissions code. Following a hearing last month, Mr Justice Cobb today gave judgment, choosing to quash the adjudicator’s decision in part. The court’s judgment can be found on the Bailii website.

Old Girls Allowed

On Thursday 23 May, Outer Temple Chambers was the venue for a rather unusual gathering, when Old Girls from Knighton House School – a prep school in Dorset – gathered from around the country to spend an evening ‘in conversation with Josceline Dimbleby’. Jossy Gaskell, as she was known when she attended Knighton in the 1950s, recalled memories of her time at the boarding school in Dorset and regaled the guests with stories of dungarees, bonfire night parties and dormitory fun and games. During her time at Knighton Josceline was a member of the choir and was noted for her singing, which is why the evening was made even more special with a performance by the school’s Chapel Choir who…
