No ordinary art fair

For the second consecutive year Outer Temple Chambers is proud to be a sponsor of the Bloomsbury Art Fair.

The fair being held from 5 to 8 July brings together work from established and emerging artists at London House, Mecklenburgh Square, Bloomsbury, London, WC1N 2AB

All of the profits from the Bloomsbury Art Fair will be donated to Motivation, the Southern Spinal Injuries Trust and Walking with the Wounded.

Walking With The Wounded

During the course of military operations, many young men and women suffer horrific injuries. They face a long road to recovery and, for many, their future outside the Armed Forces is unsure. Walking with the Wounded raises funds to finance new qualifications, courses and further education for those who are seriously injured, enabling people with a variety of catastrophic injuries to rebuild their lives and return to the workplace. A team of injured servicemen began their inspiring challenge last week to reach the summit of Everest. Their expedition will be televised by the BBC in the autumn.

The Southern Spinal Injuries Trust

SSIT supports the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre in Salisbury and people living with a spinal cord injury in the South and South-West of England. Monies donated from the 2011 Bloomsbury Art Fair are about to be used to build a pioneering rehabilitation garden in the grounds of the Spinal Treatment Centre. Designed by Cleve West, phase I of Horatio’s Garden will launch in September and will be an integral part of patients’ rehabilitation programme. It will include space for creative arts, recreation and quiet retreat. Funds raised during the 2012 art fair will enable SSIT to continue its work which will include further development of Horatio’s Garden.

Motivation

According to the World Health Organization, the average life expectancy of a paraplegic living in a developing country is 2-3 years and there are 20 million people in the world who need a wheelchair and don’t have one. Motivation works to train healthcare professionals in low income countries to better serve the disabled people with whom they work. They also specially design wheelchairs that can cope with challenging environments and provide training in vocational skills and income generation for disabled people to enable them to provide for themselves and their families.
