The Georgian Bar Association, in cooperation with the Law Society of England and Wales, hosted the English Law Forum in Tbilisi. The event brought together Georgian lawyers alongside Barristers and Solicitors from England & Wales.
The forum began with opening addresses from: David Asatiani, Chairman of the Georgian Bar Association; Paata Salia, Minister of Justice of Georgia; Gareth Ward, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Georgia; Richard Atkinson, President of the Law Society of England & Wales; and Ruslan Ugrekhelidze, Solicitor-Advocate.
The forum featured discussions on key topics including: alternative dispute resolution; asset tracing; enforcement of judgments; public international law; investor state arbitration; jurisdictional challenges; and the rule of law. Participants also had the opportunity to explore best practices from the legal system of England & Wales.
The English Law Forum also focused on the promotion and enhancement of the legal services of England & Wales, with a particular emphasis on international arbitration and dispute resolution in London. This marks the second time the English Law Forum has been held in Georgia, further strengthening professional ties between the legal communities of England & Wales and Georgia.
