Outer Temple barristers speaking at COMBAR Inaugural Gulf Meeting

Barristers from Outer Temple will join the line up of speakers at the Commercial Bar Association Inaugural Gulf Meeting in Dubai on Thursday 23rd February.

The Gulf Committee is pleased to announce that the COMBAR Gulf Meeting will take place in Dubai, on Thursday 23 February 2023.  The meeting will involve an afternoon of seminars, with an emphasis on collegiate discussion between professionals across a number of jurisdictions, followed by a drinks reception in the evening. 

This event will consist of two panel discussions. Andrew Spink KC will act as Chair the first panel discussion on the topic of Digital Assets. Justina Stewart will then join the second panel to discuss Jurisdiction.

David Russell KC, Philip Punwar, Sean Yates and Stephen Doherty will also be attending the event on Thursday.

Junior barristers are encouraged to attend and COMBAR is supporting the Bar Council International professional and legal development grant programme.  The scheme offers funding and “enables junior barristers to take part in initiatives which will offer them a global perspective on legal issues and help them to thrive in an increasingly competitive legal market”.

Andrew Spink KC served as the Chair of the Commercial Bar Association from 2017 to 2019 and is a highly respected advocate with 38 years’ experience at the Bar, of which 20 years have been as a successful KC. He is a registered advocate at the Dubai International Financial Centre (“DIFC”) Court and has expertise in various aspects of DIFC law and continues to provide strategic legal advice to the DIFC Authority on a number of current issues. Andrew often acts on international matters concerning English legal and procedural issues arising in the context of related commercial litigation and arbitral proceedings. His experience typically arises from commercial, finance, pensions and construction disputes where he has been instructed to act as counsel / co-counsel in litigation and arbitration proceedings including non-English Law. He also sits as an arbitrator.

Justina Stewart‘s practice encompasses the full range of commercial litigation, with a particular emphasis on banking and financial servicescivil fraud, cryptoassetsinsolvency and international arbitration. Her cases frequently involve multi-jurisdictional elements and matters which are notable for their complexity and novelty.

She is DIFC Part II registered and her work frequently involves a cross-border element, in particular relating to the MENA region.

Both are ranked as leading individuals in EMEA Legal 500 directories.
