Outer Temple Chambers appear in High Court against the MoD in Noise Induced Hearing Loss group claim

Harry Steinberg KC, Aliyah Akram and Carin Hunt appear in the High Court in this landmark litigation on behalf of thousands of military personnel who suffered noise induced hearing loss whilst in service.

Harry Steinberg KC, Aliyah Akram and Carin Hunt are instructed by Simon Ellis and the Military team at Hugh James in this landmark litigation against the MoD. They represent thousands of military personnel who have sustained noise-induced hearing loss and tinnitus as a result of negligent exposure to excessive noise in service.

Last year, they negotiated a groundbreaking agreement including significant concessions by the MoD on limitation, breach of duty, and combat immunity. Thousands of former servicemen and women will now be able to claim compensation for their injuries. That settlement was approved by the High Court on Monday 8 July 2024 (see article here).

Today the parties appeared in the High Court ahead of a 10-week trial of the lead claims on the issues of causation and quantum in the Autumn (listed as one of The Lawyer’s Top 20 Cases of 2025).

Military claims in the media

The settlement attracted significant media attention last year, including on the BBC, Evening Standard and Forces Network, with more media attention expected during this trial.
