We are delighted to share that our Pensions Law experts Keith Bryant KC, Nicolas Stallworthy KC, David E. Grant KC and Lydia Seymour will be speaking on Thursday 21st November at the three-day APL Conference in Brussels, that will start off with a welcome reception on Wednesday evening, 20th November.
Nicolas Stallworthy KC will be chairing three talks from 11:00am to 1:00pm on: ‘The case for CDC and practical learnings from Royal Mail’, ‘Dealing with surplus – and looking at discretions’, and ‘Pensions Increases – The Law of Diminishing Returns and/or Unintended Consequences?’.
David E. Grant KC will be speaking on ‘Pensions Increases – The Law of Diminishing Returns and/or Unintended Consequences?’ from 12:20pm to 1:00pm.
Keith Bryant KC and Lydia Seymour will be speaking alongside Amanda Rowley of Eversheds Sutherland from 2:15pm to 2:55pm on ‘ADR – what pension lawyers need to know’, chaired by Keith Rowley KC of Radcliffe Chambers.

Keith’s pensions practice covers both contentious and non-contentious work. He acts for and advises a wide range of clients including trustees, employers, scheme advisers, government departments and agencies, and trade unions. He has also acted for representative beneficiaries in a number of recent cases in the High Court and Court of Appeal. Keith has particular expertise in statutory pension schemes and regularly advises in relation to the police, firefighters’, teachers’, NHS and local government pension schemes. He also has extensive recent experience of equalisation, rectification and age discrimination claims.
Nick is one of the most highly regarded practitioners at the pensions bar, with specialist knowledge of almost all issues affecting pensions schemes. His cases have concerned the interpretation of trust deeds & rules and legislation (including e.g. indexation issues), the scope and exercise of powers (in particular, amendment powers and the formal validity of amending instruments), the application of equitable doctrines in the pensions context, rectification, the employer debt and scheme funding legislation, the powers of the Pensions Regulator (in particular its financial support direction and contribution notice powers), pensions and insolvency, European law’s impact on pension schemes (in particular in connection with ‘equalisation’) and pensions-related professional negligence claims (concerning solicitors, insurance companies, benefits consultants, professional trustees, actuaries & investment advisers).
Nick has been top-ranked as a pensions expert by Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500 for a number of years.
David E. Grant KC specialises in chancery and commercial work, in particular pensions and associated professional negligence. He has extensive advocacy experience in courts and tribunals up to the European Court of Justice. His clients have included many leading international businesses including the Atos Group, British Airways, BT, ITV, the Royal Bank of Scotland, Lloyds Bank, Aegon and Transport for London. He has also acted for the Pensions Protection Fund, the Pensions Regulator and the Pensions Ombudsman as well as leading professional advisers including Aon, Mercer and Barnett Waddingham as well as various high net worth individuals.
Lydia acts and advises in a wide range of contentious and non-contentious pensions work including ‘black letter’ pensions law; issues relating to statutory schemes and claims at the interface of pensions and employment law. She has acted and advised in numerous High Court claims raising issues of scheme amendment (including estoppel and misrepresentation); de-risking (including Courage fetter issues and the pensions / employment crossover implications); equalisation and rectification. She has advised the Pensions Regulator on issues including scheme closures, section 75 debts, clearance statements and auto-enrolment. She also has substantial experience of professional negligence actions relating to pensions, including advising and acting in claims involving allegations against actuaries and legal advisors, limitation problems and complex issues relating to loss.
