We are delighted to announce that Chambers Global 2025 has ranked our members for their individual expertise and awarded a Band 2 Set Ranking in Dispute Resolution: The English Bar (Middle East).

Outer Temple Chambers is delighted to be ranked in the Chambers Global 2025 Guide as a Band 2 Set in Dispute Resolution: The English Bar (Middle East-wide). OTC has been in the Middle East for close to a decade with a Dubai office which serves as the hub of our Middle East operations. Chambers Global noted that Outer Temple is a well-known chambers in DIFC litigation and frequently instructed by parties in disputes before the DIFC Courts; “They are a pre-eminent set for DIFC regulations and DIFC Court litigation.

The Chambers Global Guide ranks the top global lawyers and law firms in over 200 jurisdictions across the world based on in-depth research. This ranking provides a recommendation that can be relied on, to ensure clients are confident when choosing our legal services. Members have been instructed in some of the major cases and law reform projects in the last few years. We are therefore also delighted that seven of our members have been recommended individually in the 2025 Guide, including two newly ranked members.

The English Bar (Middle East-wide)

Nicolas Stallworthy KC, Andrew Spink KC, David E Grant KC , Philip Punwar, Justina Stewart and Stephen Doherty have all been recognised within the English Bar: Dispute Resolution: Chancery/Commercial Chancery categories of the Middle East-wide directory.

Dispute Resolution: Commercial Chancery (UK)

Nicolas Stallworthy KC – Band 3 – Dispute Resolution: Commercial Chancery (UK). Nick’s Commercial international litigation practice includes the interpretation of debentures and contested valuation issues; private equity transactions and restructuringspractice includes international litigation. He is described as a “top-tier technically and so supportive… [and]…real superstar.”

David E Grant KC – Band 4 – Dispute Resolution: Commercial Chancery (UK). David has experience in numerous commercial litigation matters. His clients have included many leading international businesses, prominent charities and trusts, various statutory bodies as well as high net worth individuals and group claimants. David is described as having “an excellent manner when presenting positions to the court. He cuts through the issues and is very well prepared.

Dispute Resolution: Commercial (UK)

Andrew Spink KC – Band 6 – Dispute Resolution: Commercial (UK). Andrew is highly respected in the field of international commercial arbitration in Dubai and elsewhere. In 2021-22 he sat as co-arbitrator in a significant international commercial dispute between UK and UAE based companies and individuals being arbitrated with its seat in the DIFC under the DIFC-LCIA Rules of Arbitration.  He is described as “brilliant with clients and a brilliant team player.

Justina Stewart – Band 3 –  Dispute Resolution: Commercial (UK). We are pleased to share that Justina has climbed the rankings in this category. Justina’s practice encompasses the full range of commercial litigation and she recently appeared in the DIFC Court of Appeal in the landmark Huobi v Tabarak case. She is described as “super-bright and on top of every fact and detail.

Dispute Resolution: The English Bar

In addition to our BAND 2 Set ranking, 3 members were ranked individually;

Justina Stewart  Band 3 Dispute Resolution: The English Bar. This second ranking for Justina emphasises her reputation in the region, with a client saying; “Justina Stewart is my go-to counsel for complex work in the DIFC Courts.

Philip Punwar – Band 3 Dispute Resolution: The English Bar. A new entry to this category, Philip Punwar is an established practitioner who is well-known within the UAE legal community. He is noted for his arbitration practice and has acted as counsel in international arbitrations since 1997. He was previously ranked as a Partner at two major law firms in Dubai before joining OTC.

Stephen Doherty – Band 3 – Dispute Resolution: The English Bar. Stephen Doherty has a strong UAE-focused practice which covers arbitration, regulatory investigations and litigation within the courts of the DIFC and ADGM. Chambers Global said of him; “He is excellent – bright and efficient.

Stephen Doherty and Lucian Ilie have also been recognised within the Global Market Leaders directory for their impressive and growing arbitration work.

International Arbitration – The English Bar

Stephen DohertyBand 4 – International Arbitration – The English Bar (Global Market Leaders). Stephen Doherty has deep arbitration expertise. He is a considered a go-to junior for disputes concerning Middle Eastern parties. He has acted, often as sole counsel, for clients in DIAC, ADCCAC and DIFC-LCIA arbitrations, in addition to ICC and LCIA proceedings. A client said; “Stephen was simply brilliant to work with. He’s available, flexible and very accommodating.

Lucian Ilie – Up and Coming – International Arbitration – The English Bar (Global Market Leaders). We are excited to share that Lucian has been newly ranked in this category. Lucian specialises in international law, transnational litigation and international arbitration, and has carved a niche in investor-State disputes. Clients called him a “a fountain of knowledge… [and]…a true expert in investor-state arbitration.
