Outer Temple Chambers welcomes three new barristers

We are delighted to announce that Justina Stewart, Nick Johnson QC and Sophie O’Sullivan have joined Outer Temple Chambers, providing strong additions to our Commercial and Business Crime teams.

Justina Stewart is a commercial and chancery barrister, with a particular focus on banking, financial services, regulatory, company, insolvency, civil fraud and business crime, and related professional negligence. Justina works in the UK and internationally.

Ranked as a Leading Junior in Banking and Finance and Insolvency, Justina has been described in the directories as “a force to be reckoned with” who is “far more financially literate than most barristers”.

Before coming to the Bar, Justina was an international investment banker, working with top-ranked corporate finance teams on complex transactions, predominantly in the oil & gas, electricity, banking, IT and telecoms sectors. This, together with her economics degrees, gives Justina a level of financial acumen and familiarity with financial products that is rare at the Bar.

Nick Johnson QC specialises in financial and business crime, together with cross-over regulatory work. He has a particular expertise in bribery and corruption cases, including large scale multi-jurisdictional investigations, with experience of corporate investigations brought by the DOJ and SEC in the US and similar litigation in Europe and the Middle East.

Nick is ranked at Silk Band 1 for Financial Crime by Chambers & Partners 2020, described as “A truly impressive silk with very strong attention to detail…assiduous in his preparation…especially good in international fraud cases.” He is ranked as a Leading Silk in the Legal 500 2020, praised in particular for his compelling advocacy, strategic skill and affinity with clients – “Exceptional on his feet and displays excellent client care skills. Nick is a member of the Bar Council International Committee, within which he leads the North America Working Group.

Sophie O’Sullivan specialises in fraud and financial crime, confiscation and asset forfeiture, professional discipline, financial regulation and compliance. Sophie has appeared in significant jury trials concerning corporate bribery, MTIC carousel fraud, cross-border VAT evasion, banking and mortgage fraud. She has appeared regularly before the SRA, NMC, GPHC and HCPC. Sophie has just finished a secondment to the Financial Conduct Authority having been specifically recruited to assist in the dual track investigation of a major high street bank.

Outer Temple Chief Executive, Rebecca Priestley, said “We are delighted to welcome Justina Stewart, Nick Johnson QC and Sophie O’Sullivan to Chambers. The recruitment of these excellent barristers will enhance our Commercial and Business Crime services for our clients and we look forward to working with them.”
