Instituto Marítimo Español is an institution dedicated to maritime training in its various branches across the Spanish speaking world; in legal, technical, commercial and operational functions.
The two day trip to London consisted of a number of stops for the IMO team and the students of their Master’s Degree in Business and Maritime Law, as well as their education partners, and we were delighted to be involved.
The first leg was organised by the Clyde & Co Madrid office, where the group heard about the implications of English law in the global maritime sector in Clyde & Co’s London City office. The firm then arranged for the group to proceed on to Outer Temple Chambers to hear from Paul Barton and Ian Denham about the English legal system and the key role that it has played in the development of world maritime legislation. With our chambers just opposite to the Royal Courts of Justice, the group took advantage of a guided tour of this imposing legal landmark before continuing on to meet their various maritime insurance and commerce partners.
The first day culminated in a networking event with former students and colleagues working across London, including the Outer Temple team and Clyde & Co teams.
We would like to thank Javier Hernández Valenciano of Clyde & Co Madrid and Craig Evans of Clyde & Co London for inviting us to participate in this event and meet who we are sure will be faces of the future in maritime law.
