The PEOPIL Annual New Lawyers’ Group (NLG) Conference is a two-day event held in a different member country each year and will be taking place in Krakow, Poland this year. The NLG was established with a clear focus on young colleagues and their specific aims and interests, serving as an “entrance door” for young lawyers to help put them into contact with the rest of PEOPIL.
Outer Temple’s Ian Denham, Aliyah Akram, Carin Hunt and Harry Gamble will be attending both the RTA (Special Interest Group) and NLG Conference on 3rd and 4th April 2025. Outer Temple’s Travel Law maestro, Ian Denham, is a member of the PEOPIL General Board as representative for England & Wales and is also Secretary of the PEOPIL RTA & Whiplash EEG.
On Thursday 3rd April from 11:30am to 1:00pm, Ian Denham will chair a panel session discussing ‘Allegations of Fraud and Exaggeration in Road Traffic Collision Claims’. Panel members will include Mildred Brun of Beer advocaten (Netherlands), Colin Murphy of Leigh Day (England) and Søren Vagner Nielsen of Plesner (Denmark).
The NLG Conference will take place on Friday 4th April. Aliyah Akram and Carin Hunt will be presenting a talk on ‘Military Claims’ at 11:30am.

PEOPIL was founded in 1996 by a group of personal injury lawyers. Their aim was to set up a networking organisation to provide a forum for personal injury lawyers across Europe and to improve and promote judicial co-operation and mutual knowledge of legal and judicial systems of European jurisdictions in this field. Ian Denham regularly attends and speaks at various PEOPIL events and is representative for England & Wales on the PEOPIL General Board.
Ian Denham is a leading junior in the field of cross-border personal injury law with a wealth of experience and knowledge in dealing with complex jurisdictional and applicable law issues. He is an accomplished advocate and is regularly instructed to act for both claimants and defendants at trial and contested hearings.
Aliyah Akram’s personal injury practice frequently involves a cross-border element and she is specifically adept at high-value cross-border personal injury cases. These cases frequently involve serious personal injury and private international law and therefore combine some of the key elements of Aliyah’s practice. Her advice is often sought concerning jurisdiction or the conflict of laws. She also regularly acts in aviation law and maritime law claims.
Carin Hunt is ranked in Band 3 in Travel: International Personal Injury in Chambers and Partners. She edits the ‘Accidents Abroad’ Chapter for the APIL Personal Injury looseleaf. Carin has a busy travel and cross-border practice and is regularly instructed in injury claims with a foreign element. She acts for both Claimants and Defendants. She regularly appears in the county court in respect of claims involving the Package Travel Regulations 1992 and the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018. Carin’s experience of package travel claims extends to those involving fatal accidents.
