Patrick Sadd talks to Barnardo’s regional and national safeguarding leads

Patrick Sadd was invited to speak by David Beard, Barnardo’s Head of Corporate Safeguarding, at a quarterly meeting in London of the charity’s safeguarding leads from around the country on the Jersey Care Inquiry 2014-2017 and its relevance to fostering and safeguarding.

Barnardo’s is both the largest children’s charity as well as a significant provider of fostering placements across the UK. Amongst other issues, it campaigns on and provides expertise in addressing child sexual exploitation and helping children and young people in or leaving the care system.

As one of the Counsel to the Jersey Inquiry, Patrick discussed the background to the inquiry, its findings and its recommendations. He spoke in detail on a case study on the cover up of abuse in a family group home and reviewed how fostering was and is managed in the island. The talk prompted much discussion amongst participants.
