The applications for Senior Designation were called in early 2019 pursuant to the newly notified High Court of Delhi Designation of Senior Advocate Rules, 2018. Over 200 applications were made with less than a quarter being successful in achieving this nomination, Percival being one. Strict application criteria includes bar practice for at least 10 years, a significant amount of work in the High Court of Delhi and the Courts, and a demonstrable history of pro-bono work. The designation is akin to Queen’s Counsel.
Percival Billimoria is a Professional Associate at Outer Temple Chambers. He practises in India and internationally. He is also qualified as a Chartered Accountant, having practised as such before entering the practise of law. He is known for his extensive experience as counsel in adversarial matters (litigation and arbitration) concerning international companies and investors doing business in India. He is also regularly appointed an arbitrator on SIAC, LCIA and ICC cases.
Percy is listed in the Who’s Who Litigation Guide 2020, who say he is “a key name in the Indian market when it comes to high-value disputes relating to various matters, from joint ventures to infrastructure claims.” Chambers & Partners Asia-Pacific rank Percy in their Dispute Resolution guide, describing him as “a brilliant counsel”. He has also been recognised by Asia Pacific Legal 500 as one of the leading individuals in India.
Percy said of his appointment “It’s a moment to rededicate oneself to the ideals of the profession. There is no greater honour to strive for than to be remembered as a worthy member of the bar. That’s the final pinnacle and the designation is a stepping stone towards that milestone”.
Andrew Spink QC, Head of the Business Team at Outer Temple, said “Percy has been a much valued Professional Associate member of Outer Temple Chambers since 2018, helping to enhance our ability to provide international clients with high quality expert Indian law advice and advocacy in commercial litigation and arbitration disputes in a diverse range of international jurisdictions, including London. We are delighted that Percy has achieved this honour, which is very well deserved and puts him into an elite group of Indian senior advocates with the ability and experience to take on the most complex and weighty commercial cases.”
